5 MISTAKES YOU SHOULD AVOID WHEN DECORATING YOUR PLACE WITH PLANTS

Plants, plants, and plants again. If there is something we have learned in recent seasons, it is the trend of plants that never seems to end. And that’s really exciting!

Few things are as easy and light-weight to bring into our homes as plants. It’s a quick and easy trick to give your place a fresh look and make it feel more alive. Plants are also good for your health!

But as with everything else, there are some pitfalls that are easy to stumble upon when decorating your place with plants. In this guide, we are going to discuss some common mistakes people make and the tips to help you avoid them.

Mistake #1: You don’t adjust the number of plants to the surface available

It doesn’t matter how much we love plants. It’s all about how much space we have.

If you live in a large apartment full of furniture or interior decorations, you shouldn’t bother decorating it with plants. However, if you live in a small flat, having too many plants can make it look messy and cramped.

Tip

Always consider all the circumstances when it comes to how much — or little — plants you are going to raise. Do not be afraid to move the plants to different rooms or experiment with heights. The season and mood you’re in can also play a big role.

Mistake #2: You only think about trends

Trends come and go, even with plants. The mistake many people make is paying too much attention to the latest trends and forget that living things, such as plants, need to be taken care of. Constant buying and throwing plants away is neither practical nor sustainable in the long run — for the environment and your wallet.

Tip

There’s nothing wrong with trends, but for the sake of the environment, you should invest in plants you won’t get tired of quickly. You can, of course, buy ‘trendy’ plants, but you shouldn’t get too many of them. Don’t go crazy about plants. It is better to save some money for the future — who knows when you will need to buy cheap essay or invest in your health.

Whether it’s a violin ficus, indoor tree, or rose screen everyone’s talking about, you shouldn’t rush to buy all of them at once. And even if you did, you needn’t be in a hurry to dispose of your older plants immediately.

Do you support the opinion that timelessness is boring, and it really can’t keep you from the latest plant trends? You can give your plants a new life by gifting them to someone who has more time for planting than you do.

Mistake #3: You buy all plants at the same time

Your home grows with time, and new details in it often get mixed up with older ones. Having that feeling is difficult if you buy furniture and decorations at the same time. And the same goes for plants.

Tip

If you decorate your place from scratch, you should start with a few selected plants. They will help you create a ‘green base’ for the entire apartment. Supplement them with more plants as you continue decorating your place to make it look complete. If that helps, think of your plants as the icing on a cake.

Mistake #4: You select “wrong” varieties

By the wrong varieties, we do not mean any particular plants, but rather ones that are wrong for you and your room conditions.

If you choose to have ‘fancy’ plants, you risk getting stressed out. Why? Because there’s a risk of you constantly thinking that you will never be able to keep them alive (that’s so expensive!). As a result, you may completely give up the idea of decorating your place with plants and lose the comforting feeling of home.

Tip

It is a good idea to start with not too difficult-to-manage plants before getting fancier ones.

Mistake #5: You place the plants wrong

Beautifully styled homes are a source of inspiration, but it’s not always the plants that make it look beautiful. Nothing wrong with that, but it may not always be so long-term if you want to make your dream home come true.

Tip

If you want a plant in a special place in your home (e.g., a bookshelf), you should choose one that can survive there. Before choosing a place for your new plant, consider its resistance toward those conditions. For example, a plant that requires plenty of sunlight won’t survive somewhere under the ceiling.

Also, keep in mind that a plant with a strong scent may not be suitable for the bedroom. And if you want one in the bathroom, you should make sure it can withstand the tricky environment there.
